E-commerce describes the commercial activities that happen in the electronic world by selling and buying goods online. It also referred as wide range of online business activities for products and services.Here the transactions are made in the form of electronic money change. E-commerce is mainly classified in to the following categories.

1. Business to Business (B2B)

2. Business to consumer (B2C)

3. Consumer to Business (C2B)

4. Consumer to consumer (C2C)

B2B e-commerce is simply defined as e-commerce between companies. The products or services of one company is selling to another company directly. Here the orders are taken by online.This kind of e-commerce process the major portion of e-commerce activities in the world.Examples of major companies adopted e-commerce as their major source of revenue are Dell,HP, Cisco etc. These companies receive major portion of their orders through Internet. The online trades between public sectors and business groups are also comes under this category.

B2C e-commerce is the dealing between one company and its consumers. Consumers are buying the product or services offered by the company via Internet.The goods are usually the physical objects like electronic equipments, cosmetic items books or services like subscription to an online magazine,Internet services, software updates web designing and site promotion etc. The major examples of B2C stores are Amazon.com,Beyond.com etc. The normal mode of payment is via credit cards or PayPal.

C2B e-commerce is the dealing between consumer and a company. Here consumer is giving business to the company. One of the major example we can see under this category is CPC advertisement methods. Here consumer is dealing with the advertising company like he want to choose the advertisement modes on his or her web site. The publisher has the full control to choose the service provider from a long list of CPC advertisers.

The last category of e-commerce is Consumer to Consumer. All the online business dealings among consumers falls under this category. Major example is the online trading of second hand goods through online stores. Best examples of this kind of trade-market is eBay. The major portion of transaction is through credit cards and PayPal.

In a nut shell we can say that e-commerce is the business transactions via Internet and this kind of marketing makes the feeling that the complete world is as near as with in few mouse clicks.
